WITH GRATITUDE FOR ALL OUR VETERANS

Original oil on linen 20" x 16"
First Sergeant Harvey E. Walden III

This is a commissioned painting I did several years ago of
First Sergeant Harvey E. Walden III.  I wanted to use this image again to represent and honor all who have served in our armed forces.

My deepest and most heartfelt thanks goes out to all  who have served and sacrificed for our country.  Your service to America is beyond measure.

Have a wonderful Veterans' Day.

 Blessings,

September McGee

BIRTHDAY WISHES AND BRAND NEW IDEAS.

ONE OF MY BIRTHDAY WISHES THIS YEAR  IS TO DO THINGS I HAVE NEVER DONE!

It's been many years since I have painted an oil on gold leaf.  My plan was to do another nude similar to the one I painted years ago.  This piece not only sold right away it remains my top selling nude   print today.

I AM PROUD TO PRESENT

         MY NEW RAINY DAY SERIES

                      ON GOLD LEAF

                            ...AND....

                       SILVER LEAF

Light, as you know, is an integral component of painting, particularly, impressionistic painting.  How the light falls across the image and interplays throughout the piece creates an ambience for the viewer to enjoy as they uncover the artist's message.

One of the fun things about painting on gold and silver leaf is the contrast created between the two elements...and the painting can change, markedly, just by moving the light upon which it is viewed.

IT'S NEW - IT'S UNIQUE - IT'S FUN!

See from the photographs of each of these oils how the painting changes just by my moving the light when I photographed them.  Almost like the morning to the dusk, these paintings have their unique glow no matter what time of day!

"Rainy Day on Gold Leaf #1"
oil on gold leaf panel, 12" x 9"

"Rainy Day on Silver Leaf #l"
                                                            oil on silver leaf, 10" x 8"

Hope you enjoy my new fun series.  Let me know!

THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT YEAR AND THE BEST
IS YET TO COME!
BLESSINGS,

                                              September

FISH PAINTINGS BRING GOOD FORTUNE by American Impressionist September Mcgee

 "Three Fish #1"
oil on Italian Panel
"Three Fish #2"
oil on museum panel

Feng shui has been practiced in the Far East for over five thousand years and is a traditional Chinese design system based on positive energy called Chi.

According to Feng shui, different people have different energy needs. These energy needs can be fulfilled by different objects, paintings, colors placing and putting them in right place of your house.

My  new paintings of fish - still drying in my studio - represent more than just fun, colorful paintings!

Fish represent wealth - strength and prosperity.

RED is the Chinese color of luck and happiness.
and love, romance, courage and passion in the West and signifies richness and luxury and helps promote fame.

YELLOW represents cheerful and uplifting and is basically the color of FUN
and increases self esteem and strengthens overall health and well being.

The number THREE  (that's the number of fish in each painting)
represents creation in the Chinese tradition, the holy divinity in western religions and the Tao tells of the great Triad - heaven - mankind - earth.

My new paintings of FISH are packed with great energies to bring all of the best and good fortune to all!

I came up with the idea to paint some fish which then required a great deal of resourcing...now where am I going to get some whole fish (eyes, tails and all)?  Luckily I found a friendly and very accommodating fish market in San Clemente, CA - Billy's.  What a great new find for fresh fish and fun foods!  Several phone calls later with Billy and Charly I was on my way to meet my newest models - Inkin, Blinkin and Nod!
They were fun to paint but under a hot model's lamp the necessity of
painting as fast as I could was mandatory.
Will I do more paintings of fish? if you know me...you just never know.

I am happy with the results and thrilled that the great energies of
fish, red and the #3 are bringing the good fortune we all deserve!

Sunsets in Laguna by Artist September McGee

"Sunset #1"

This is the first in my newest series of
paintings entitled "Sunset #1"!

This is the one of the views from my walks near the
Montage resort in Laguna Beach, CA.
As the story continues, I took photos along
the seaside to cheer up Jacqui's friend
who was facing many challenges
with a smile and a cheery heart!
I would also send the pics to my sister Kate
to entice her to re-visit me soon!

It's fun to think that my meanders have turned
into a new series of paintings and now become memories living on for centuries.

ENJOY!
It's one of the most
beautiful times of the day!
Have you seen the green flash?!

Blessings,

September McGee

p.s. I confess I am a "night owl" so the prospect

of Sunrises becoming my next series is
ZILCH!

New Award from Indian Wells Exhibition for Artist September McGee

"Streets of San Francisco - Cable Car Stop #1"
Pastel on Board

Just now back from the Indian Wells Arts Show and wanted to share
the great news!  "Streets of San Francisco - Cable Car Stop #1" won an award!

This piece is a pastel on board and was an intricate but "fun" painting to create!
I stood in the middle of Powell Street to get this shot.  Horns were honking!  I was willing to get run over - I had to get this shot!  And, I loved that the American flags were in the photo too!!!

"Streets of San Francisco - Cable Car Stop #1"
was also accepted into the 13th Biennial National Juried Exhibition with the Degas Pastel Society, 2010, and the North Valley Art League 25th Annual National Exhibition, 2009.

Did you know that the San Francisco cable cars are the only mobile national monuments in the United States?!  Well, thanks to a beautiful and wonderful woman, Charlotte, who stopped by my booth at the Indian Wells show, and shared this fun fact with me, now you know!!!

Let's share more fun together.  Join my blog!

"Ballet Series - Lacing Her Slipper II"
Pastel on Panel

Just finishing up a series of pastels in my studio and preparing for the many art shows I am doing commencing in April!

"Lacing Her Slipper II" is a dramatic piece with wonderful lighting coming through the studio window as she dons her ballet shoes in preparation for the dance. The pastels are rich in texture and color.  The reflections on the floor are stated with a delicacy to reflect the mood of the piece!
She is such a lovely ballerina!

New Creations on a Wonderful Wednesday by September McGee

"Summer Rain"
24" x 18" oil on linen

"Summer Rain" is a brand new creation that took on its own specialness when a customer of mine decided she wanted a woman on the beach done in greens in my "rainy day" technique.
Her name is Jacqui and I would meet her, albeit too briefly, most summers in my booth.  Last year, however, Jacqui, with her huge giving heart, was taking care of a friend on hospice in North Carolina.  She shared her story with me about her friend Ms. Sherry and what a kind and giving person she was.  I decided I would take pictures of my walks by the ocean and sunsets and send them to Ms. Sherry to give her heart some beautiful images and some love from the west coast.  She wasn't suppose to last very long, but she surprised everyone and she made it to see her new grand child,  Christmas and more!  With all the sunsets and gorgeous Laguna seascapes I sent, "Summer Rain" was the last image Ms. Sherry saw and she loved it. A painting cannot leave my studio until I am absolutely certain it is ready to go.  I just finally shipped it up to Jacqui and it arrived on Valentine's Day - the perfect day for a woman with a huge loving heart!
....and she LOVED it!

Every painting has a story...a beginning... with the idea....a middle... with the photo session and the creation itself...and an ending...the home where it was meant to be!  "Summer Rain" was in the works for almost a year.  Jacqui blessed me by coming to my home/studio around my birthday and we shared Veuve Cliquot (there is no other) and knoshed, laughed and I turned her onto Brie with chopped
red onions... let's not leave off the chocolate covered strawberries and other scrumptious sweets.
It was most endearing to spend quality time with this amazing woman. She brought along a friend AND her new sweetheart, who happens to be her old sweetheart! Yes, they found each other once again and act like sixteen year olds!!!  Jacqui has found love. Each night as I went to work on "Summer Rain" I asked this painting what love can I give you?  Then and only then would I paint.  My desire was for Jacqui to love what I created for her. The gods were kind to me as I painted with love I learned to love my art once again... all because of the love of one humble, energetic, caring woman.  Did I mention she use to be a nurse.

I believe this painting will always remind us of the love we all shared - Ms. Sherry, Jacqui, Mitch and myself and how wonderful it is that art can convey the most powerful and wondrous feeling in the world - LOVE from its creation and for eternity.  Thank you Jacqui, for sharing your kindness and unending giving of yourself to others and for loving my work!  I still take pictures of the sunsets and so thanks to Jacqui and Ms. Sherry look for several exciting sunset paintings due out this summer!

I wish you all love today and all days!

Blessings,

September McGee
