You Just Have To Love Our Pets!

"Ginger"

Oil on Linen
16" x 12"
The Sirott Collection

"Ginger" is an original oil on linen.
This adorable little dog was so much fun to paint!

I wanted to capture the sweet look in her eyes.
This little dog greets you with kisses
and curls up in your lap,
and is loved beyond measure.

It was an honor to be commissioned to paint

"Victorian Tea Party" a commissioned painting by September McGee

"Victorian Tea Party"

oil on linen, 24" x 30"

by

September McGee

Several months ago one of my amazing collectors asked me to do a commissioned painting for his Victorian home in St. Louis,  MO. He came up with the idea of a Victorian tea party painting for his dining room.  It had to be a large painting to fit this spectacular  room, recently restored in true Victorian fashion...a room done with a true love and passion for the time period.

Commissioning a painting from an artist is a wonderful adventure into the creative realm.  A bond of trust bridges the relationship between collector and artist. Patience is also required. The creative process works on it's own time and this timing has to be respected.  My client,

Brian A. Van Tine,
M.D./Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine and
Sarcoma Program Director at the Barnes and Jewish Hospital,
 Washington University, St. Louis, MO

is not only a busy physician, but an avid  appreciator of the arts with a reverence for the visionary process.  He sent me pictures of his Victorian dining room, from the chandelier, Victorian mouldings, wallpaper, fireplace, windows, ceiling and even his white cat on the dining table! We ordered the frame before we even began.

I love the Victorian times: the clothes and hats. It was a lovely and insouciant era.  I have used this style for many of my figurative pieces over the years, and so I was thrilled to undertake this challenge. The ideas on how to accomplish this project began germinating.  Finally,  the right moment presented itself  and I began the creative process.

I sketched and played with the figures and the room.  I came up with a final sketch and showed Dr. Van Tine.  I usually don't show my initial sketches to clients, but Dr. Van Tine had been so patient and I was definitely pleased with the layout, composition and color palette.

I wanted to capture his spectacular dining room.  I decided to use the three rear windows as my background. I couldn't leave out the amazing fireplace, the exquisite chandelier, the mouldings and the ceiling's decor. The painting on the right is a copy of the final commissioned painting within the painting itself!

This was a fun project, which I had to admit took me far longer than I anticipated.  My creative juices were challenged.  My goal was to bring the viewer into the dining room and make you feel as if you were there!

I shipped the painting to St. Louis and Dr. Van Tine put it in its waiting frame.

  "It is perfect."

Thanks,

Brian

LOVE is in the air!

"Amore"
oil on linen, 18" x 14"

The warmth of summer is upon us!  The birds are singing, flowers are in bloom and love is in the air!  My latest painting "Amore" portrays a couple sharing a quiet tender moment.
I wanted to depict the love and sweetness these two share.
Capturing emotions in paint is my ultimate goal.  I strive to create an experience in my paintings; an experience the viewer will have again and again.

The beautiful reflections on the table represent one of my signature features. The spirited brushstrokes juxtaposed with  soft edges throughout help create the overall warm sentiment, as if you could touch this moment in time.

I use only the finest archival materials in my works
and unique quality framing.
My goal is to give value, excellence and a sui generis
worthy of the finest art collection!
This painting is now available at:

Greenberg Fine Art Gallery, Santa Fe, NM

Happy Thankful Thursday!!

Blessings,

September McGee

Six New Original Oil Paintings for Spring!

Six NEW original oil paintings, created for my 2013 Collection is debuting at the Greenberg Fine Art Gallery!

"At The Met Series - In Love With Georgia"
Original oil on Senso Linen
"Santa Fe Series - Santa Fe Mountain - New Years Eve"
Original oil on Belgian Linen

I am pleased to announce I am now being represented by:

 Greenberg Fine Art Gallery

in Santa Fe, New Mexico

Greenberg Fine Art Gallery is owned and operated by Mark Greenberg whose personal vision for quality fine art is elegantly represented in this prestigious gallery. Located on beautiful Canyon Road in Santa Fe, the gallery hosts multiple rooms filled with a striking blend of classical and contemporary paintings and sculptures.

The 2013 Collection includes:

At The Met Series

My “At The Met Series” derived from countless visits to the Metropolitan Museum of  Fine Arts in New York.  It was fascinating watching the stance people don as they viewed the masterpieces.  I decided I had to paint these amazing moments.  The first edition of the “At The Met Series” had 4 paintings exhibited in six National Juried shows with several awards and  sold out.   Each piece resonates with my new fresh palette and creative textures rendered with the signature  brushstrokes indicative of my impressionist style.

Santa Fe Series

My “Santa Fe Series” is  brand new to my repetroire, inspired by a recent visit to New Mexico.  No matter the season, the light in Santa Fe is like no other.  The adobe buildings and sidewalks glow with a warm rose and yellow hue.  I purchased a special tube of oil paint, Gamblin copper, for this series, which when mixed with titanium white and naples yellow, with a touch of coral red, creates the beautiful hue I wanted to capture.

FABULOUS BREAKING NEWS! From Artist September McGee

GREAT NEWS!

I was just elected a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA)! The Pastel Society of America is the oldest and largest Pastel Society in America.  Founded in 1972, this is a distinguished society housed at the National Arts Club on 15 Gramercy Park South, New York. This honor grants me the distinction of using the initials PSA after my signature on my paintings and in all my correspondence.

This makes my third Signature Member status - Pastel Society of the West Coast (PSWC) and The Connecticut Pastel Society (CPS)!   I also have an Elected Member honor with the Allied Artists of America, NY.  So I will forgo the initials of all my Signature Honors as my signature would be way too long!

These are some of the images I used for the jury towards this honored status.
